MIT-MC Orienteering Competition
Have you ever watched Amazing Race? Where teams of two are racing to get to the pit stop first? If yes, this sports is similar to the concept of the show but you are using maps and compass for navigation. Just remove the thousands of dollar worth of price. You have to have the knowledge of using the map and compass if you want to do orienteering. Mapua Institute of Technology is organizing its 3rd Orienteering Competition in celebration of its 25th Anniversary.
What is orienteering?
Orienteering is actually a competitive international sport where the teams are racing to the finish line which requires navigating using map and compass to go from point to point. The routes are mainly unfamiliar terrains. So expect a run to the woods. It was created in Sweden, in the late nineteenth century and it was originally a military training. It can be enjoyed by all ages as long as they are knowledgeable in navigating using map and compass.
Mapua Institute of Technology – Mountaineering Club (MIT-MC) is organizing a clinic for those who want to learn the sports. The participants will learn basic orienteering and how to use map and compass to navigate one point to another.
3rd MIT-MC Orienteering Competition
The 16km course is divided into 12 control points that must be visited in a given order but following the competitor’s own route choices. The legs will lead them to the rugged hills and valleys of the Sierra Madre and aims at testing the competitor’s physical endurance while demanding orienteering skills – map reading, compass handling and ability to make efficient route choices under stress.
WHEN: December 6, 2015
WHERE: Province of Rizal. The actual location will be announced one week before the competition. This is to ensure the fair play between the participants.
